The New York Jets kicked off the 2023-2024 NFL Regular Season with a thrilling overtime victory against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, the franchise lost its newly-signed franchise quarterback in the process.
On Monday, September 11, fans piled into MetLife Stadium to watch Aaron Rodgers take his first snap as a member of the New York Jets. While Rodgers was able to take his first few snaps without fail, he tore his Achilles before the first quarter came to an end. Minutes into the Monday Night Football showdown with the Bills, Rodgers was helped off of the field and underwent tests on his ankle shortly thereafter. To the chagrin of Jets fans, the results would reveal that their star quarterback’s season was over before it had the chance to begin. Still, Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh is confident that Dalvin Cook, Garrett Wilson and the rest of the offense have what it takes to have a successful season.
“I don’t know why people are trying to put an obituary under our team name,” Saleh told a gaggle of reporter over Zoom, according to ESPN.
With Rodgers sidelined for the remainder of the season, Zach Wilson will take over starting quarterback duties. In the first game of the season, the former BYU standout completed two-thirds of his passes for 140 yards and one touchdown.
“I do want to make it very clear: Zach’s our quarterback,” Saleh told reporters, according to ESPN.
“We’ve got a lot of faith in Zach.
