Houston Rockets Guard Kevin Porter Jr. has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and strangulation after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, at a New York hotel.
“This is a serious domestic violence case,” Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Mirah Curzer said, according to the Associated Press.
On Monday, September 11, Porter Jr. was reportedly sharing a room with his girlfriend and WNBA free agent, Kysre Gondrezick, at the Millennium Hotel in Manhattan. According to reports, the Houston Rockets guard allegedly returned to the room in the early hours of the morning and Gondrezick locked him out of the room. Eventually, the former USC men’s basketball standout allegedly gained entry to the room and physically assaulted the former Indiana Fever guard. More specifically, a criminal complaint accuses Porter Jr. of punching her in the face and squeezing her neck, leaving her gasping for air before she ran out of the room. Gondrezick reportedly sustained a cut above her right eye, bruising and a fractured vertebra.
Porter Jr. was taken into custody on Monday, September 11 and was released on bail the following day. He is expected to return to court on October 16, 2023.
