Stephen has previously participated in five three-point contests and won once back in 2015 in New York City. The year after, he decided to defend his title in the event and lost against his teammate Klay Thompson in Toronto. Since then, he hasn’t participated in the contest until now. On Thursday, the older Curry brother was announced to be a starter for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game. Stephen is most notably known for his ability to shoot from three-point range. He has a career percentage of 43.7 percent from beyond the three-point line and this year he is shooting a 44.4 percent while shooting almost 12 threes per game.
His brother Seth on the otherhand has come into his own as of late with the Blazers primarily playing a reserve role to relieve either Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum. This is the first time Seth is going to participate in the three-point contest. Seth is posting a 44.3 percent three-point shooting percentage for his career while shooting 48 percent from three this season on almost 3 attempts per game.
Lillard is the Blazers lone All-Star on Sunday and he is going to participate in his second three-point contest on Saturday against teammate Seth Curry. The first one came in 2014 when he decided to participate in the three All-Star Weekend contests: Slam Dunk Contest, Skills Challenge, and Three-Point Contest. Lillard managed to win the Skills Challenge in 2014 before going for back to back titles in the contest in 2015. This season Lillard is shooting 37.1 percent from the three-point line while shooting almost eight three attempts per game.
Nowitzki is one of the legendary big men that added shooting threes as part of his shot selection during games and helped play a big part in changing NBA offenses forever. Nowitzki will be 41-years-old by time the contest takes place so this most likely the last year he will have a chance to participate if he does decide to retire after this season. He’s expected to leave the NBA as the league elected to select him for the 2019 NBA All-Star game as a special legends addition. Currently, Dirk has a shooting percentage of 25.5 percent from three-point range while shooting almost three three-pointers a game. For his career, Dirk has shot a 38.2 percent from three and is one of the best to ever line up from distance.
Buddy Hield has been great lately for the Kings as their highest scoring player hitting 20.3 points per game and improving almost all of his major statistics from last season. Hield will participate for the first time in the three-point contest and has one previous participation in the skills challenge in 2018. This season, Hield is posting a 46 percent shooting percentage from the three-point line while shooting a little more than seven threes per game.
As for Devin Booker, he is the defending champ of the contest, and also broke a record as he won last year, and participated also in the 2016 contest when he lost to Klay Thompson. Booker also participated in the skills challenge in 2017. This season, Booker is shooting 32.4 percent from the 3-point line while shooting a bit more than 6 three point shots per game.
Meanwhile in Brooklyn, guard Joe Harris will participate in the first 3-point contest of his career. It’s also Harris’ first trip to the All-Star Weekend as an NBA player and it’s well deserved during the best season of his career. This season, Harris is shooting a career-high 45.3 percent from beyond the arc. He’s also shooting a little bit more than 5 three attempts per game.
Danny Green has been known for being a three-and-D specialist throughout his time in the NBA primarily with the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors. This will be the first time he participates in the three-point contest, a few years after setting the NBA Finals record for three’s made in a Finals series. This season with the Raptors, he is having one of his best years shooting 42 percent from the three-point line while shooting more than five three-point attempts per game.
Khris Middleton is going to be part of the All-Star game on Sunday as a reserve and will show his shooting prowess on Saturday. Middleton also participated in the 2016 three-point contest. Currently, he is shooting 38 percent from the three-point line on six three-point attempts per game.
Kemba, who plays in Charlotte for the Hornets, is set to be a starter for the All-Star Game and will participate for the second time in the contest. This season, he is shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc and is shooting almost 9 three-pointers per game.
