LSU Tigers third-string quarterback Walker Howard has announced that he will enter the transfer portal. Howard was a top-50 recruit that reaffirmed his commitment to the Tigers after they hired Notre Dame Fighting Irish Head Coach Brian Kelly as their next Head Coach. With starter Jayden Daniels announcing his return and backup Garrett Nussmeier also returning there weren’t likely any snaps coming for the quarterback in 2023. LSU also signed 2023 quarterback recruit Rickie Collins to their recruiting class. Several Power Five programs are expected to be interested in Howard heading into the 2023 college football season.

As a freshman for the LSU Tigers, Walker Howard did get to play snaps in the team’s 63-7 domination of the Purdue Boilermakers in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. He completed two passes for seven yards on four attempts in the game. Because of the limited snaps, Howard should still have four full years of college eligibility to spend with a team if he decides to do that. Howard likely hopes to play his way into an NFL Draft at some point in his college football career. While he will explore his options, the TCU Horned Frogs have emerged as an early favorite to land the quarterback.
