
CBS and Paramount+ have set a premiere date for the forthcoming documentary, Dear Coach Stringer. The 30-minute film will follow the life and career of legendary college basketball coach Vivan Stringer will debut on March 25, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. EST.
Born an hour outside of Pittsburgh, Stringer was a four-sport athlete at Slippery Rock University in Butler County. After she completed her college career, she became the head coach at Cheney State University, the oldest historically Black university in the United States. In 1982, Stringer led the Lady Wolves to the Final Four. Upon the completion of her 10th season at Cheney State, she became the head coach at the University of Iowa. In 12 years at the University of Iowa, she led the Hawkeyes to six Big Ten titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the Elite Eight.
The legendary coach shifted her work from Iowa to New Jersey as she took over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights program in Piscataway. Under Stringer’s leadership, the Scarlet Knights earned 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, won four conference titles and appeared in two Final Fours. After coaching for more than four decades, Stringer retired with more than 1,000 wins and a spot in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
