Netflix doesn’t usually release their viewership data. Or, at least they didn’t for a long time. Recently they’ve been known to show off their numbers when they make the company look good. For example, earlier this summer they happily release the details of Murder Mystery‘s record-breaking viewership totals. They also announced impressive data on their 2018 originals, You, Sex Education, and Bird Box earlier this year.
So, I think everyone kind of expected to hear from the company after Stranger Things 3 dropped. But, I don’t think anyone expected the crazy numbers they reported. Netflix took to Twitter on Monday to announce that an unbelievable 40.7 million accounts had watched the show’s third season. That’s more than than any other film or series in its first four days, according to the company’s tweet. Even more unbelievable though, a whopping 18.2 million of those people had already watched the season in its entirety.
.@Stranger_Things 3 is breaking Netflix records!
40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch — more than any other film or series in its first four days. And 18.2 million have already finished the entire season.

As one of the 18.2 million who finished it, it’s my civic duty to tell you this: stop reading this, get off your phone, get off your computer. Go finish the third season of Stranger Things. Or if you haven’t started it, go start it. It’s that good. Storywise, they kicked it up a notch but it’s kind of more of what you’d expect, just with higher stakes. Production-wise though, they blew through the top of the scale on the way to space. Cinematography, set-pieces, production value, its all turned up to 11 for the third season.
Stranger Things 3 is available to stream on Netflix in its entirety right now.
