The Grizzlies shut down Evans midway through last season and reportedly informed him they would trade him at the deadline, but failed to do so after they were unable to acquire a first-round draft pick in return.
After that debacle, Evans was done with Memphis, playing in just seven of the Grizzlies’ last 36 games.
Despite that chaos, Evans thrived when he did play last season, having, in year nine, his best year since he was a rookie, and maybe ever. He averaged 19.4 points 5.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and a career-high 39.9 percent from 3-point range.
