Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish sophomore quarterback Tyler Buchner has announced that he has transferred to the Alabama Crimson Tide for next season. This is an early indication that Head Coach Nick Saban was not happy with his current quarterback room when it came to replacing Bryce Young under center. Notre Dame declined to name a starting quarterback until Fall camp and it seems that Buchner decided to find a different situation after the team’s spring game. All of this combined makes it seem likely that he will be the Crimson Tide starting quarterback to start the 2023-24 college football season.

As a sophomore quarterback for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tyler Buchner completed 46 passes for 651 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed the ball 36 times for 123 yards and four rushing touchdowns. An injury last year derailed his season, but he did play in the team’s bowl game. He was expected to compete heavily for the starting job at Notre Dame, but now he will do that with the Crimson Tide. Alabama expects to win the National Championship every single season and having a good quarterback under center is vital for that to happen. Nick Saban could be hoping that Buchner is that quarterback.
