60 second charges that’ll last 8-12 hours? The though alone sounds very superficial, but Performance Designed Products are in the midst of groundbreaking technology for gamers. PDP new charging stations for controllers, currently named “Super Charger”, will eliminate a problem some gamers have when their controllers die and thats having to sit close to the TV to continue gaming or not game at all.
While at CES 2016, Polygon got a chance to talk with the creatives behind this game changer. “We’ve developed a technology to charge your controller in a new way, it’s not using a battery pack, in the past it has been about either your dry cell battery chemistries or your lithium ion or lithium polymers, but we’ve developed a new type of power pack” Christopher Dingle, director of product development at PDP.
PDP’s CTO Tom Roberts talks of the incredible charging station saying “the Super Charger’s unique ability to recharge the Xbox One controller in just seconds reduces interruption in game play sessions – a full recharge during a quick break provides convenience to all gamers”. This Super Charger is still in the prototype stages and has yet to be licensed or endorsed by anyone.
The super charger won’t be out anytime soon as PDP looks to open up pre-orders for the charger by the end of 2016. Currently, the station would cost $99. Stay tuned for all updates on the super charging station.
