In the eight-decade history of the Golden Globe Awards, only two television series, Mad Men and The X-Files, have won the “Best Television Series – Drama” category three times. Tonight, the exclusive table for two has added a third set as HBO’s Succession has won the category for a third time. In order to do so, Succession had to outperform Netflix’s The Diplomat, Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, Netflix’s The Crown and its HBO counterpart, The Last Of Us.
Succession not only won the “Best Television Series – Drama” for the third time, but it also set a record with nine nominations. Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong were nominated in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama” category. Meanwhile, Alexander Skarsgård and Alan Ruck secured nominations in the “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television” category. Not to be forgotten, Sarah Snook was also nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama” category.
The popular HBO series concluded its four-season run in May 2023. Over the course of five years, the series picked up 75 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won 13 awards prior to tonight’s ceremony.
