All good things must come to an end.
After 27 years in business together, Tiger Woods and Nike have agreed to part ways.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world. The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever,” Woods stated.
“[Former Nike CEO] Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.”
Woods and Nike established their relationship in 1996 as the legendary golf champion made his pro debut. Eighty-two PGA Tour wins and 15 major titles later, he and Nike have made the red golf polo as famous as possible. Not to mention, both parties have collaborated to release several golf-centric items over the years, including the golfer’s signature self-apparel hat.
“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself,” the brand stated.
“And for that challenge we’re grateful.”
