Shakur Stevenson will take his talents to the Garden State this fall. ESPN and Boxing Scene have reported that the unified super featherweight champion will defend his titles against Robson Conceição on September 23, 2022 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson, a Newark native, has not fought in his hometown since July 13, 2019. Since then, the rising star has beaten Joet Gonzalez, Jeremia Nakathila and Jamel Herring. Most recently, he outpointed Oscar Valdez to win the WBC Super Featherweight Championship.
“Newark, we coming home,” Stevenson tweeted.
Stevenson’s opponent, Conceição, is an Olympic Gold Medalist with a professional record of 17-1 with eight knockouts. The Brazilian contender suffered his lone loss last September against Valdez. Since then, he earned a unanimous decision against Xavier Martinez in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The fight will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+. More details regarding tickets will be shared in the coming days.
