The Seattle Seahawks regressed a little from 2014 to 2015 after winning only one playoff game a year ago. Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson are looking to get back on top as the kings of the NFC once again in 2016. What obstacles stand in their way as we look at the roster heading into this season?
3 Position Battles To Watch:
- Offensive Line: Every spot is up for grabs
This was one of the worst offensive lines in football a year ago. The scary part is they lost Russell Okung and J.R. Sweezy this offseason making their offensive line even more putrid. Seattle drafted guard Germain Ifedi is round one but he won’t solved their problems. If one thing holds the Seahawks back this year it will be this unit.
2. Runningback: Thomas Rawls vs. C.J. Prosise vs. Alex Collins vs. Zac Brooks vs. Christine Michael
If the Seahaws were completely satisfied with Thomas Rawls they wouldn’t have drafted 3 runningbacks this year. C.J. Prosise will slide into a nice 3rd down pass catching role. Don’t be surprised when Alex Collins is the starter 10 weeks from now, this guy’s a complete back.
3. Linebacker: Frank Clark vs. Kevin Pierre-Lewis vs. Mike Morgan vs. Cassius Marsh
Who is going to take the Bruce Irvin spot? Michael Bennett and Cliff Avirl and the bookend pass rushers leaving the group above to take the outside linebacker role. K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner are locked in at the other linebacker spots. My pick to win the job is Frank Clark who was the teams second round pick a year ago recording 3 sacks as a rookie.
Ready To Breakout: Tyler Lockett
We saw the flashes during his rookie campaign in both the return and receiving game. Heading into year two expect Lockett to be even more featured in the Seahawk offense. He caught 51 ball for 664 yards in 2015.
Fantasy Sleeper: Jimmy Graham
He has to get back on track this season right? After receiving only two touchdowns a year ago, Graham is fully healthy and went through his 2nd offseason to learn the offense. This is one of the most dominating tight ends in the game when he is right.
Rookie To Watch: Jarran Reed
We already talked about how much I like Alex Collins. The other rookie Seattle should be gushing over is Jarran Reed. He reminded me of Sheldon Richardson and will be a dominating presence from day one along Seattle’s interior defensive line.
