Through three and a half quarters, the Seattle Sea Dragons appeared to be headed for their third consecutive loss of the 2023 XFL season. Then, the team’s Super Bowl-winning wide receiver, Josh Gordon, caught a deep ball from quarterback Ben DiNucci and maneuvered his way to the endzone for a 65-yard, fourth-down touchdown catch.
The electrifying touchdown catch put the Sea Dragons up 30-24 against the Las Vegas Vipers with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter. Ultimately, the Sea Dragons were able to hold the Vipers’ offense back and secure their first victory of the 2023 XFL season.
Seattle has endured a few setbacks during the first week of the season. In week one, Seattle suffered a heartbreaking defeat against the Defenders after Ben DiNucci was stripped of the ball on the goal line as he attempted to win the game with a quarterback sneak. One week later, the Sea Dragons fumbled the ball three times in a loss to the St. Louis Battlehawks. In week three, Seattle cut down on the turnovers and turned up their offensive firepower.
Seattle was phenomenal on offense in the highest-scoring affair of the young XFL season. Running back Morgan Ellison picked up 103 yards on the ground while Ben DiNucci accounted for nearly 400 yards through the air. To top it all off, Josh Gordon racked up 118 yards and two touchdowns.
Next week, the Seattle will face off against the San Antonio Brahmas.
