Jonathan Majors, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson and the stars of Creed III are making the rounds as they roll out the box office hit. Recently, the cast stopped in Atlanta, Georgia to do something that Hollywood casts rarely do. The crew held a press conference promoting the film exclusively with student journalists from historically Black colleges and universities. Among the participating institutions were Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Howard University, North Carolina A&T University and many other institutions.
“I love the confidence they have, the questions that they’re asking, they’re tentatively listening, they care. So, it’s good for us to show up and give them the opportunity to do what they love doing,” Jordan said, according to HBCU Buzz.
Jordan has been a vocal advocate for historically Black colleges and universities around the country. Most notably, he has launched the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, an HBCU basketball tournament, in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Moving forward, the actor has plans to expand his efforts into more avenues to support HBCUs.
“This is chess, this is the long game,” Jordan said.
“We want people who look like us to have those same opportunities to be successful as well. So you got to look at all the pieces on the board, we got to stop looking at ourselves as victims and start taking what we deserve, and to instead start acting like we belong here. That’s something that I really firmly believe in.”
