This is the second time the Timberwolves trade Rubio as he was part of the deal to acquire a first-round pick back in 2017. The Cavaliers will get veteran experience at the guard position to help develop the young backcourt of Sexton and Garland.
As for the Timberwolves, they get more depth and experience in the forward position and it also helps that Prince earns almost $5 million less than the Spaniard guard to have more flexibility with the cap space for when free agency starts.
Currently, Rubio is in Tokio representing his country in the Olympics and scoring 26 points and 4 assists to beat Argentina and give Spain the ticket for the quaterfinals.
