Wednesday Addams and Elle Woods may have more in common than you might think.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, actress Reese Witherspoon appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During her conversation with the late-night talk show, Witherspoon explained how Netflix’s Wednesday inspired her involvement in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle.
“I loved it. I watched every episode. I thought it was amazing,” Witherspoon said. “I was like, ‘We should do Elle Woods in high school,’ because I wanted to see who she was before college, before law school, and I started having all these ideas, and these amazing writers came up with a great pitch, and now Amazon is making the show, and it’s called Elle.”
The creation of Elle is led by Laura Kittrell, who executive produced Insecure alongside Issa Rae. Currently, Witherspoon, Kittrell, and company are in the process of finding the next Elle Woods, a process Witherspoon says is “really hard.”
“And now, I have to pick a girl to play the young me,” she said. “But they’re killing it, and now it’s a really hard decision.”
Prime Video’s Elle, a prequel series following the titular character through high school, is expected to begin principal photography in March. Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor are also reportedly writing Legally Blonde III.
