Netflix is developing a documentary about the life and legacy of the legendary entertainer Eddie Murphy.
“EDDIE, a forthcoming documentary, chronicles his meteoric rise from teen comic phenom to Saturday Night Live breakout and stand-up supernova to box-office titan,” a description from Netflix’s official fan site, Tudum, reads. “It illuminates the evolution of Eddie Murphy — the trails he blazed and the records he broke on his way from Brooklyn upstart to Hollywood icon. In this intimate portrait, the Oscar-nominated actor opens up his home and dives deep into his eclectic career of nearly 50 years.”
Directed by two-time Academy Award winner Angus Walls, the documentary will feature Murphy and the friends, co-stars, and directors he’s encountered over the last 40+ years in Hollywood. Produced by John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena, EDDIE will come to Netflix later this year.
EDDIE is one piece of Netflix’s larger slate of programming. This week, the streaming giant shared news about a number of movies and shows set to be released this year, including a new season of Squid Game, Knives Out III and five new projects from Tyler Perry.
