Viewers are eagerly awaiting the the third season of Squid Game, but the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, may already have his eyes set on a spinoff.
“When we were doing season one, I was saying there was never going to be another season,” Hwang Dong-hyuk told The Hollywood Reporter.
“And so if the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.”
If Hwang Dong-hyuk were to craft a Squid Game spinoff, he’d like to fill in the gaps. More specifically, he’d like to depict the three years Front Man spent in between the first Squid Game and the second.
“One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. There’s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years?” Hwang Dong-hyuk continued.
“What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything.”
First things first, Netflix is expected to debut the third season of Squid Game later this year. Afterward, who knows what Hwang Dong-hyuk may come up with?
