Game one of the series was an 8-4 victory by the Red Sox, they relied heavily on their bullpen who was lights out besides Ryan Brasier allowing a run. The Dodgers, however, turned to their bullpen and it did not go as well, allowing three runs over four total innings. Kershaw struggled giving up seven hits over four innings. Chris Sale was also not incredible giving up three runs on five hits over four innings.
The Red Sox extended their series lead to two wins after Game two. Game two was a close game until the Red Sox went ahead in the fifth inning. Hyun-Jin Ryu struggled for the Dodgers, only pitching four and two-thirds innings giving up all four runs. David Price was incredible, continuing to breaking the stereotype about his playoff performance pitching six innings giving up only 2 runs picking up the win. Price gave the ball to Boston’s bullpen who was lights out and did not allow a hit in their 3 innings of work.
The Red Sox fell to the Dodgers in Game three 3-2 after Max Muncy hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning. This game is the longest postseason game in MLB history taking an astounding 7 hours and 20 minutes to complete. The game was a close game throughout, it was almost ended in the 13th inning but the Dodgers were able to score on an error to help them stay alive. Nathan Eovaldi took the loss for the Red Sox after throwing six very strong innings for the Dodgers just getting unlucky allowing the walk-off home run by Muncy. Alex Wood picked up the win for the Dodgers pitching just an inning walking one batter. Walker Buehler put an amazing performance on the field for the Dodgers pitching 7 innings giving up 2 hits striking out 7 batters.
The Red Sox kicked it into gear again in Game four getting a 3-1 series lead after a 9-6 win over the Dodgers. Joe Kelly came into the game for the Red Sox, pitching two innings allowing no runs striking out three, picking up the win. The Dodgers loss was awarded to Dylan Floro who pitched two-thirds of an inning giving up three runs. Steve Pearce homered and doubled to clear the bases in Game Four.
Game 5 sealed history for the 2018 season allowing the Red Sox to clinch their World Series title. David Price pitched seven innings only giving up one run which was a home run in the first inning. Clayton Kershaw pitched seven innings for the Dodgers giving up seven hits and four runs. World Series MVP Steve Pearce hit a home run in the first inning and then another home run to extend the lead in the 8th inning.
The Red Sox were the best team in baseball this year during the regular season as well as going through the New York Yankees in the ALDS and the Houston Astros in the ALCS, completing the full cycle with their win over the Dodgers to claim their World Series title. This is the Red Sox fourth World Series Championship since 2004 and ninth total in franchise history.
The Red Sox made some crucial acquisitions prior to this year and at the trade deadline adding on players like Ian Kinsler, Nate Eovaldi, and signing J.D. Martinez. Bringing Steve Pearce over from the Blue Jays also goes down as an extremely crucial acquisition for this Boston Red Sox team. Alex Cora also was able to come into this managerial job in the first year and lead his team through the regular season, leading the league with 108 wins and then managing them to a World Series Championship.
For the Dodgers, this offseason looks to be a tough one, with Manny Machado who was a big acquisition and part of this team entering free agency. Look for the Dodgers to lose multiple players with rumors of Clayton Kershaw pitching his last game in a Dodgers uniform tonight. The Dodgers defeated the Braves in the NLDS and Brewers in NLCS on their way to the World Series but ultimately came up short against the Red Sox in the World Series.
