Queen Sugar will return to the OWN Network on Wednesday, June 12th for its fourth season. In the new season, Erica Tazel and Kendall Clark will join the cast. As reported by Deadline, “Tazel will play Deesha Brown-Sonnier, an attorney and socially conscious neighbor and mother of Joie.” Clark will play the role of “a bright and self-confident tomboy, daughter of a single mother who becomes friends with Blue.” In addition, Walter Perez has been moved to a series regular in the fourth season. Perez will play the role of Romero Rodriquez, “a rugged, man with gentle manners who begins dating Charley Bordelon after helping her start a dead battery.”
Behind the scenes, Queen Sugar has announced a new initiative. The new season of the OWN Network drama will consist of all women directors. The new season will feature directors such as Carmen Marrón, Numa Perrier, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun and Tchaiko Omawale. Cheryl Dunye will also have the distinction of being a director and a producing director. Oprah Winfrey will also continue to serve as an executive producer for the series.
In the new season, the Bordelons will continue to fight to save their family farm and preserve their father’s legacy. Charley will continue to battle the Landry family as she works to ensure Micah’s safety. Nova will publish a book and go on a nationwide book tour that makes things uncomfortable at home and Ralph Angel will continue to evolve as a father.
