Rap had a great year in 2022. Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, J. Cole and many of the culture’s biggest artists were present and active. Despite the great music and live shows that were put together, there was a bit of turmoil in all of that goodness. Most notably, the genre lost a number of artists, including Kirsnick Khari “Takeoff” Ball.
To the world, Takeoff was known as one-third of the legendary group, Migos. He’s responsible for the group’s style and innovative flows. He was also the youngest of the trio, leaving an impact that stretched well beyond his years.
To his family, he was a cousin, nephew and light of positivity. In the weeks following his passing, his family members and former groupmates, Quavo and Offset, have struggled to publicly express the pain and suffering they have dealt with following the death of Takeoff. Through all of the sadness, Quavo has turned his pain into a song called “Without You.”
On Sunday, Takeoff traveled out to Los Angeles, California to meet up with Maverick City Music. Together, they delivered a heartfelt performance of “Without You” to honor the fallen artist at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Check out the performance below.
