The UCLA Bruins have been incredibly active recruiting since the program added Mick Cronin as their head coach. Five-Star 2021 recruit Peyton Watson has officially committed to play for the head coach and the UCLA Bruins. Cronin continues to impress with his ability to bring in talented names to a once-great Blue Blood basketball program. Watson is the second commit for the Bruins in the 2021 class. He joins four-star shooting guard Will McClendon in the Bruins class for the year.
Top-25 prospect Peyton Watson is staying home for college. He’s committing to UCLA, Watson tells ESPN.
“I’m the No. 1 player in California and I feel like UCLA is the original blueblood.”

UCLA has struggled in recent years and Mick Cronin is working hard to turn a defeated culture back around. Bringing in the top player in your state, especially a massive state like California, is a massive recruiting win for the program. Watson could very well be a “one and done” prospect, but he can inject much-needed talent and culture into a seemingly defeated program. Head Coach Mick Cronin has been impressive even without his recruits in the program, so fans are eagerly awaiting a team fully comprised of his players.
UCLA is a historic program and no other program has been able to match them in National Championships despite having decades to catch up to them. The program and their fans were excited about the addition of Cronin and a move like this will likely embolden that hope in the future. Watson is a talented player and has earned his spot as the best player in Californa’s 2021 class. He has decided to stay close to home and will follow in the footsteps of several NBA Hall of Fame careers.
