The Memphis Tigers have signed Head Coach Penny Hardaway to a six-year contract extension worth a reported $16.5 million in new money. This extension will keep him with the program through the 2027-28 college basketball season. In his tenure as the Head Coach of his Alama Mater, Hardaway has brought in top-level recruits, made the NCAA Tournament, and overall made the Memphis Tigers basketball program once again relevant in the NCAA. The former NBA star is now tied to his former college for years to come. This also comes after he was cleared of wrongdoing in an NCAA probe into the program.

As the Head Coach of Memphis Tigers, Penny Hardaway has led his program to an overall record of 85-43 and an American Atheltic Confernce record of 45-24. In those four seasons he has led the team to the NCAA Tournament once and the NIT Tournament twice. The one season he did not make the postseason was due to COVID-19 canceling the postseason. Hardaway also led his team to the 2020-21 NIT Championship. He has also brought in several big name recruits to the Memphis program in his tenure.

He can continue to give back to the program that got him to the NBA as the Head Coach for years to come now. The season is about to begin, and the program rewards Hardaway just before it begins.
