On December 15, 2018, the Memphis Tigers played a hard fought battle against the Tennessee Volunteers. Though Memphis played a great brand of basketball, the Volunteers finished up on top with a 102-92 victory.
A couple of days after the game, things started getting heated between the head coaches of each team.

Memphis Basketball coach and former NBA star, Penny Hardaway, had some choice words to combat the comments made by Tennessee coach Rick Barnes.
Hardaway had explained that he is frustrated that Barnes would downgrade his players for things he has been coaching them on. Later in his statement, he says that coach Barnes “seems to be focusing on the wrong things” when it comes to the game and his players.
To finish thoughts, he expressed his frustration by saying,
“He’s blessed to have the No. 3 team in the country and he should be happy with that. And we will see each other again, for sure.”
This could be the return of a great College Basketball rivalry. Since they do not appear on each other’s schedules for the remainder Memphis and Tennesee will have to wait until the future to play face off again. But, Hardaway believes they will meet again.
