UConn Huskies star guard Paige Bueckers has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the 2022-23 NCAA basketball season. The star guard suffered the injury in a pickup basketball game and underwent an MRI on Monday to confirm the injury. She is set to undergo surgery to repair her injury on Friday. Last season Bueckers missed a significant portion of the season with a non-contact leg injury, but returned and wowed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. One of college basketball’s best players will not be in action this season.

Last season with the UConn Huskies despite her injury, Paige Bueckers averaged 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. She paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 54.4 percent and a three-point percentage of 35.3 percent. This injury is devastating for one of basketball’s best young college athletes and could hurt the Huskies’ chances of contending for a title next season. Hopefully, she can return next season and return to the top of college basketball’s ranks. For now, she will focus on recovering from her injury and surgery.

UConn Huskies Head Coach Geno Auriemma released the following statement about Paige Bueckers’ injury: ” We’re all devastated for Paige. She’s worked really hard to get stronger and healthier this offseason, and this is an unfortunate setback. Paige is obviously an amazing basketball player but she’s a better person and teammate and it’s really unfortunate that this has happened to her. We’ll miss her presence on the court, but she’ll do everything she can to still lead and help her teammates this season. Our program will support Paige through her healing process to help her come back better and stronger.”
We here at Def Pen Sports hope for a quick recovery and return to the court for Paige Bueckers following this injury.
