Few producers and songwriters have a bond with Kendrick Lamar quite like Sounwave. From 2009 through the present, the California native has worked on every Kendrick Lamar studio album. Therefore, any comment he offers regarding the Grammy Award winner’s recording process carries additional weight. During a recent conversation with Jessica McKinney, Sounwave said that Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers artist is already working on his next LP.
“Oh, we always start immediately after,” Sounwave said about Lamar’s next project.
“Like, we’re starting on the next one now.”
Kendrick Lamar is not only working on his next project with Sounwave, but he’s also touring the world. The North American leg of the tour kicked off on July 19, 2022 in Oklahoma City and will run through September 15 in Los Angeles. The European leg of the tour will begin in Amsterdam on October 7 and continue through Manchester on November 16. The six-month-long tour will conclude in December with five dates in Australia.
Throughout the world tour, Kendrick Lamar will be joined by pgLang’s Baby Keem and Tanna Leone. Baby Keem delivered his debut album, The Melodic Blue, in September with features from Don Toliver, Travis Scott and Brent Faiyaz. He also picked up a Grammy Award for his “Family Ties” collaboration with his cousin, Kendrick Lamar. Meanwhile, Tanna Leone is the newest addition to Lamar and Dave Free’s pgLang. The Los Angeles native dropped his pgLang debut, Sleepy Soldier, earlier this year.
Beyond his work in music, Kendrick Lamar is also working with Dave Free to produce an untitled, comedy film for Paramount+. South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are also reportedly involved in the project.
