Later this week, the city of New York will honor Christopher “Notorious B.I.G” Wallace’s 50th birthday with a series of celebrations around the Big Apple. As reported by Andy Bustard of Hip Hop DX, the Barclays Center will broadcast a montage of the New York native’s greatest moments on the oculus display above the arena’s entrance. Elsewhere, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will offer a limited set of MetroCards with his face on them at the following stations: Lafayette Avenue, Clinton – Washington Ave. and Atlantic Ave. – Barclays Center. Rounding out the city’s celebration, a special ceremony featuring his immediate family and close friends will be held at the Empire State Building. Adding to the celebration, the building will be lit up in red and white lights in his honor.
The celebration of Notorious B.I.G’s life and career will not end on his birthday. In June, a special orchestral tribute will be held at the Lincoln Center and broadcasted by Amazon Music. Also, a 25th anniversary box set of Life After Death will be released on June 10, 2022. The special release will feature rare photos of Wallace, a commemorative booklet and much more.
