With the beta for The Division starting this week, Xbox On sat down with, Magnus Jansen, the Creative Director for The Division. The two talk about the inspiration behind the game, the story and more.
Jansen talks about the online experience and running into new people. “You can run into strangers” and what he says next is what may have drawn gamers in, “you can choose to engage with them and kill them, and steal some of their stuff, it’s all up to you [the gamer]”. Jansen goes on to describe the online world as a “tense situation”, since you may never know what a teammate may be thinking.
One thing all gamers will like, even those who prey on the noob, Jansen speaks on the servers and matchmaking. If you are at a high-level, you will not run into any low level opponents and the same goes for low-level vs. high level. There will be servers that caters to both sides of the spectrum.
Deeper into the sit-down, Julian Gerighty, who’s the associate creative director spoke on the story mode. Gerighty explained that The Division’s story will be split into three chapters, each telling their own respective stories.
“Every mission that you do is going to be linked to one of those story threads and is going to give you a little piece of the puzzle, once you’ve completed all the missions in that story thread you’ll have all the pieces of the puzzle that you’ll put together and get an extra piece that will give you a different perspective on the story” Gerighty went onto explain.
The Division will be out for Ps4, Xbox One and PC March 8th. Be sure to pre-order The Division now so you can experience the beta over the weekend.
