The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted senior assistant and quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to the position of offensive coordinator. He served in that same position for the team from 2016-2017 before taking the job as the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears. After being fired by the Bears he returned to Kansas City in 2022. Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy left the team this month to become the offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders. Nagy will once again slide into the role of offensive coordinator for the team after the year as the senior assistant and quarterbacks coach.

In four seasons as the Head Coach of the Chciago Bears, Matt Nagy led the team to an overall record of 34-31 and an NFL Playoff record of 0-2. Each of the four seasons the team got worse or stayed the same record wise in his coaching career. The team lost in the Wild Card Round in his first and third season with the team. His team was chaotic and he lost the locker room well before he was fired.
With the Kansas City Cheifs, Head Coach Andy Reid handles quite a few of the offensive responsibilities. That may have been part of the reason Eric Bieniemy left for the jobs wth the Washington Commanders. Nagy will still have some responsibilities, but it is unclear how many he will have. When Reid does decide to retire they could decide to take a look at Nagy as his replacement.
