The Washington Commanders have reportedly hired Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for the same position. While he has been a candidate for several head coaching positions in the last couple of years no team has decided to hire him for the position. The speculation is that he needed to coach on a team without Head Coach Andy Reid, so he can fully showcase what he has to offer as an offensive play caller. The Washington Commanders fired offensive coordinator Scott Turner near the beginning of the offseason and began their search for a new one shortly after.
The #Commanders and Eric Bieniemy agreed to terms on a multiyear deal as their assistant head coach/offensive coordinator, his agent Jason Fletcher tells me.

Despite the serious question marks with the team’s offensive unit heading into next season, Eric Bieniemy will be handed a much larger role with the game plan and the offensive play calling. Washington Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera is a more defensive-minded coach and will hand most of the offensive responsibility to Bieniemy. This job change could further showcase to other NFL teams what he is capable of moving forward. His ultimate goal for a while has been to land a job as a Head Coach.
The Washington Commanders are seemingly entering the offseason with rookie quarterback Sam Howell as their new QB1. Howell started just one game in his rookie season this past year. That could change with Eric Bieniemy coming in, but for now, that is what the team is working with. This change of scenery could be exactly what Bieniemy to land himself a job as a Head Coach in the future.
