Kyrie Irving and LeBron James won a championship together as Cavaliers. Now, both are gone from Cleveland, on rival teams in the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. Irving left the Cavs first, abandoning James and the Cavs by requesting a trade in the summer of 2017. This led to a strained relationship between the two stars, but it seems they’re on better terms now. From Joe Vardon of The Athletic:
Yes, there was damage done to the relationship between LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
Also yes, it was repaired by Irving’s call to James last month to apologize.
“Yeah, we’re in a good place right now,” James told The Athletic Saturday night. “Me and Kyrie are in a good place right now. I love the man that he’s becoming, I love the challenges he’s accepted and I always wish the best for him.”
…
James said of that call: “We talked and it was a great conversation,” but wouldn’t divulge what he said to Irving. “He told y’all what he said,” James said.
Irving called James last month to apologize and, basically, tell him he now knows how hard it is to lead a team.
James also gave his take on the Kyrie Irving-New York Knicks rumors:
“He handled it great,” James said. “His post interview was great as well. Just a lot of things that’s going on in our league right now, and the one thing you want to focus on is getting that team to place where he wanted it to be, and that’s competing for a championship.”
