Konami, the name Hideo Kojima built from the ground up, continues to prove just how shitty of a company they are. Since the beginning of the ending stages of Metal Gear Solid V, Konami has tried to drag Hideo Kojima’s name through the mud and deny any wrongs doings. During the summer, right before the release of MGS V, Konami removed Kojima’s branding from their site and all of the games that built the house of Konami. A few weeks after the release, Konami and his co-workers had a farewell party, but Konami claimed that Kojima would only be going on a vacation and is still under contract.
Now, fast forward to last night’s Game Awards, Hideo Kojima wasn’t in attendance. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to be there, but because Konami asking their lawyer to send him a letter, saying he can’t attend.
Geoff Keighley, host of the 2015 TGA’s announced why Kojima couldn’t attend to fans and they were highly disappointed.
As you noticed, Hideo Kojima is not here with us tonight and I want to tell you a little about that. Mr. Kojima had every intention of being with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s awards ceremony to accept any awards. He’s still under an employment contract. And it’s disappointing and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers and his fellow teammates.
Kiefer Sutherland, who voiced Venom Snake and Big Boss in MGSV, accepted all awarda on Kojima’s behalf.
