The Georgia Bulldogs and Head Coach Kirby Smart have agreed to a ten-year contract extension worth $112.5 million. Georgia is coming off their first National Championship win since 1980. They are an early favorite to return to the College Football Playoffs this upcoming season.

As the Head Coach of the Georgia Bulldogs for six seasons, Kirby Smart has led the team to an overall record of 66-15 and an SEC record of 40-9. He has also helped lead the team to a 6-2 bowl record, the 2017 SEC Championship, and the 2021 College Football National Championship. Smart won SEC Coach of the Year in 2017 and in 2021. Smart took Georgia to the college football mountaintop and has been rewarded for his efforts.
On Tuesday, Kirby Smart said he doesn’t think college football players should make $10,000 a month.

This contract extension comes right after Kirby Smart was critical of NIL and the amount it is currently paying players. Smart himself was already making a lot of money and now he will be making considerably more for the next decade-plus. Players are finally getting a piece of the action that they generate and the comments come off a little odd considering this deal was likely in the works for some time.
