Wear Your Kicks Wednesday. It’s that time of the week again my fellow ‘sneaker heads’ (again I use that word loosely). Last week Wednesday was #AirMaxDay and it was only right I paid tribute to the iconic Air Max with the Wear Your Kicks Pt. 2 but take a different approach than expected. The Nike Air Foamposite Total Max in its “Metallic Silver” colorway is exactly where I took my #AirMaxDay tribute and “Wear Your Kicks” Pt.2
If you missed last Wednesdays “Wear Your Kicks” then you missed a good story on what took place the night I went to purchase the kicks, don’t worry though you know I got y’all covered. Check out the Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 2
There was quite the response to this past Wednesday’s #WYKW hashtag, which showed a hand full of Air Max, a couple LeBrons, KD’s, Kobe’s and Jordan’s. To continue on as promised, the recap featured a few participants to the hashtag (#WYKW) and man was it difficult to choose so we tried to post as many as possible without overflowing the post with so many pictures/pages.
If you missed the recap then check out Kickin It With Def Pen: WYKW Recap to see what type of kicks were submitted.
Now onto the next one, Wear Your Kicks Pt. 3, that is. As I stated in prior posts this series is for the people and with that being said we have our very first submission for Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks.
If you are familiar with twitter then you know @IcebergAk. He decided to the break the ice and be the first to submit a story along with his own pictures to showcase his kicks. If you aren’t following Ak on twitter or instagram then you wouldn’t know that he’s an avid sneaker head, but I would have to say he is more of a collector in a sense because he has kicks I wish I had or still had that dropped years ago.
Now real quick before we get into Ak’s submission, what so happens to be the Nike LeBron 9 Elite “Miami Vice”. When I got the email I should have figured it would be a pair of kicks that would make me cringe. I mean I do own a pair but that’s not the point, it’s how he got them that made me cringe but ehh just forget it you’ll see. (Laughs)
Here is this week’s Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 3 featuring @IcebergAk.
First of all shouts to Def Pen for having me for this week’s edition of ‘Wear Your Kicks Wednesday’.
The Lebron Elite 9 “Miami Vice” was one of the most hyped releases in the year 2012. Now the Lebron 8 “South Beach” was slept on the year prior originally but close to and after release became one of the most highly regarded colorways of all the Lebron models and the Miami Vice 9s shared a similar South Beach color scheme.
I made it thru the past years without having to camp out for any kicks I wanted and didn’t want to this time around. So trying to line up the ‘Miami Vices’ I called and texted every connect I had, but it was a no-go and couldn’t secure them. I even called a friend in the NBA, but he had just moved to Adidas and his Nike connect was dead at that point.
So I made up my mind that I’d have to camp out.
At the time, Nike released a new method to try and secure the Miami Vices in a response to the increased violence happening at sneaker releases, the method was the Twitter RSVP. They would tweet the RSVP was open and you had to DM your local Niketown the hashtag, your name and size if you won they’d DM you back.
So all day Thursday I waited checking the timeline for the tweet from Niketown NYC. Just when I was getting ready to run out they tweeted the RSVP was open. I sent the DM and the waiting game ensued. About a half hour passed I figured whatever it was worth a shot, then I got a notification on my phone. I opened it and it’s a DM from NikeNYC saying my size is available for pickup that Saturday between 8AM-12PM.
I rubbed it in my boys’ faces who also tried to wake up on Saturday, and for one of the most hyped releases I had one of the easiest pickups ever. A lot of this sneakergame is being lucky and waking up early (laughs). These are still one of my favorite Lebrons ever released.
