Whats good y’all? As promised we are back again with another Kickin’ It With Def Pen, for a part 2 to “Wear Your Kicks”. If you haven’t been made aware by now I will gladly refresh your memory on exactly what the whole ‘Wear Your Kicks” and #WYKW (Wear Your Kicks Wednesday) movement is about.
Last Wednesday we; Def Pen Radio and Kicks Ova Everything brought to you guys the start to a weekly series which will allow ‘sneaker heads’ (I use that word loosely) to showcase their kicks every Wednesday that they wear.
The #WYKW Recap featured a select few of participants who got the hashtag off to a rather good start. Also with the #WYKW hashtag going on I released the first of many write ups for the “Wear Your Kicks” series, title “Wear Your Kicks Pt.1″ which showcased the Air Jordan 7 Retro “YOTR”. I showed off some of my own pictures and as well as a story on what took place with me purchasing a pair.
Now that I made it through the introductory/recap and refreshening part lets get into the next pair of sneakers I want to share with you guys. Considering that today, 3/26 being #AirMaxDay I wanted to show off as a collective group my Air Max 95’s but I gave them away. SO, I decided the next best thing would have to be my Nike Air Foamposite Total Max aka the Tim Duncans. Now I know, I know they aren’t technically considered Air Max if we are just sticking to runners but the shoe features a full air max unit which can cause for a valid argument.
With that said lets get into this weeks “Wear Your Kicks”, Nike Air Foamposite Total Max “Metallic Silver”
The year was 2011 and I was currently an employee with Footlocker. When I was younger this would have been a dream come true to work for a sneaker store of this magnitude. Now don’t get me wrong working for FTL had its perks but working part time only led to me spending my checks on sneakers. LOL. How ironic the company that paid me eventually got their money right back.
Well it was September 29th and I was working the closing shift and this was the day before the Silver Duncans or for technical purposes, the Nike Air Foamposite Total Max was making its way back onto retailers shelves. I was way too excited for this release and couldn’t wait to get off work. I could have easily waited to come into work the next to pick up my pair but this was when ‘Midnight Releases’ existed so thats exactly what I did.
After making my way down to 34th street in Manhattan I met up with Dame, who I introduced you guys to in the last #WYK post and another good friend of mine; KOE member, Kirk.
We all had decided we were going to wait online at the Footlocker on 34th which is down the block from House Of Hoops. If you’re familiar with the area you know where I am referring to.
While on line waiting we would always meet a few individuals that are into kicks like us so we chop it up exchange stories of our favorite kicks, etc. Everything was everything at this point until an announcement was made about the release of the Silver Duncans.
Apparently Footlocker was putting a limit on their pairs that they would release with the employee discount. So me being the part time employee I was at the time, I was really relying on this discount so I started to get fed up because there were other employees from that store online who were just getting in line where they pleased.
Then it starts to rain and everybody opens their umbrellas.
Nothing can be more annoying then a crowded line with a bunch of umbrellas in the way. I was right because Kirk and a few of the people in line started arguing about the umbrellas wetting each other and this whole shoving match from people waiting in the back (like they were getting pairs any time soon) had started.
Finally midnight approaches and the managers allow us to get our pairs and of course I got my employee discount, good ol’ black card. (oh how I miss those days).
Story isn’t quite done yet, hold on.
Apparently Kirk chopped it up with an employee prior to getting in Footlocker where Dame and I got our pairs. This employee was going to let Kirk get a pair on discount (30% mind you). Now this is the funny part, (you actually had to be there to see the reaction) Dame started to feel some type of way because Kirk wanted to go back to House of Hoops. For me to get a discount and Kirk to get one Dame wasn’t trying to stay around for that.
LOL.
Next thing I know Dame and Kirk started arguing. My laughing didn’t make things any better. Oh well it was funny.
At the end of the day though we all got our pair of Silver Duncans and as you will see mine have long been worn.
Take a look at my own pictures I provided of the “Metallic Silver” Air Foamposite Total Max and let me know what you guys think.
Oh yeah its 2014, stop tying your laces… and wear your kicks.
