Fresh off the #WYKW Recap from last week, we continue to move forward in this now 15 weeks strong series. Last week we shared a rather intimate, from the heart story from Mike aka @_MikeSinatra that really identifies what being compassionate about something is really about and that even means sneakers. Take a brief look back at the Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt.14 to read all about Mike and his Air More Uptempos ‘Olympic’.
This week for Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 15 we have a feature from Cake Inglish also @cake_inglish on twitter and instagram. If you aren’t following this man on either platform you need to. He is very much so into kicks and his photography game is on point.
Enough talking, lets jump into it.
Man when I actually sit here and think about it, I literally eat, breathe, and sleep sneakers. I actually have my parents to blame for my love of Sneakers. Growing up my mother always felt it was necessary that I had a nice pair of sneakers.
I actually began collecting and keeping my sneakers clean around 1997. Even though I loved kicks as I kid, when I got them I played ball in them, ran around in them, pretty much beat them up. But As I got older and people started to take notice to the amount of sneakers I had, I figured it was time I started collecting.
Every pair of sneakers I have in my collection right now has a story or meaning. But if I had to single out one shoe and pick that one shoe to live with for the rest of my life it would be my Black and Infrared 6’s. In my opinion no Air Jordan sneaker compares to the silhouette of the Air Jordan 6. The shoe is so beautiful from the black suede to the accents of beautiful infrared on the shoe.
People always ask “Well why is the Air Jordan 6 your favorite shoe”? My response to that is always well number one above all the Air Jordan 6 is the shoe his Airness won his first NBA Championship in. That alone defeats everything else haha. Beyond that the shoe itself is just so comfortable and stylish. Also something pretty unique that some may not know, is that on the Air Jordan 6 if you look at the shoe on the sides it’s actually a huge 23 on the shoe.
I remember Jordan winning his first title in 1991, I was 6 years old at the time and even though I didn’t understand the game that well, I remember my older cousins, uncles, and my dad making me watch and understand the greatness of Michael Jordan as it began to unfold in him winning that first NBA Championship.
I had hoop dreams as a kid so seeing MJ win a title in 6’s I thought damn maybe I could do that especially if I had those Air Jordan 6’s, and from that point on I knew those kicks had become my favorite of all time.
Though the Black Infrared 6’s are my favorite Sneakers of all time, honestly any Air Jordan 6’s in original colors does it for me from Carmines, White Infared’s, and Sport Blues.
I missed out on the 2000 Infrared 6’s when they dropped and I dead ass cried. HAHA 15 year olds and I cried because I didn’t get a pair of Sneakers. I was sour when they released the 2009 Varsity Red 6’s but I settled for those, I would later get those customized by my boy who does restorations and customs, check out his IG page @thesolehealer. He turned the Varsity Red into Infrared for me, and I swear those Sneakers get the most rotation in my collect right now.
The Black Infrared 6’s are actually scheduled to release this year on Black Friday 2014, and as God is my witness I plan on doubling up, if things are really good I might even get 3 pairs. The shoe will look exactly like the 1991 pair with the exact infrared, and also with the 3M underlay which wasn’t even featured on the 2000 pairs.
So yeah man for me it is 6’s above all, and that will never change. I even plan on getting married in a pair of Air Jordan 6’s, and when I die (god willing no time soon) bury me in a pair of 6’s.
