Fresh off the Kickin’ It With Def Pen: #WYKW Recap (6/11/14) we are back with another installment of our weekly Wednesday showcase. #WYKW short for Wear Your Kicks Wednesday is just something we started over 3 months ago and today we are on week 14.
After I decided to share a story last week I felt it was only right to get anther feature. If you missed Part 13 from last week I suggest you refresh your memory and prepare for what we have set for today.
This week we have another frequent participant of #WYKW and from my time following him on twitter, an enthusiast when it comes to kicks.
I introduce to you guys Mike or on twitter @_MikeSinatra. Take a look at the story he decided to share, which is rather inspiring especially when you can relate to the situation some what. The kicks he chose to speak on I actually own which weren’t my first choice but I am glad I picked them up, the Air More Uptempo ‘Olympic’.
From my days in pampers and Aqua VIII’s till now I’ve always enjoyed sneakers. As I got older my affinity for shoes grew, having an appreciation for the classics and developing an acquired taste for the new joints. What else fueled my passion for sneakers was basketball, watching my favorite players rock the same sneakers that I wanted to cop blew my mind when I was younger. Which is why I picked the Olympic Air More Uptempo. When Nike released the Olympic pack back in 2012 I was preoccupied with getting the Galaxy Pack in my collection. I overlooked one of my favorites the Olympic Air More Uptempo. I was crazy about these from watching highlights of the 96 Olympics, Scottie Pippen was one of my favorite players so these were a must for me. Of course with my luck I never got a pair and just left it at that.
Fast forward a bit, I was going through changes, situations I went through forced me to draw back from collecting, which eventually forced me to sell the majority of sneakers in my collection. Late in 2013 I had the pleasure of coming across someone who would change a lot of aspects in my life. My girlfriend Katherine, helped me get myself together and even encouraged me to collect again. One of my good friends contacted me asking if I wanted a pair of the Uptempos. All it took to have those in my possession was a pair of black toe 1’s as well as a little speech Katherine gave me. “This was something you enjoyed so why not continue to do so?” Those words stuck with me. The day I picked up the Uptempos I knew I was going to ease myself back into collecting and wearing my favorites with pride.
Apart from helping me get back into something I’ve enjoyed as a child, she has been an important part in my life. Although she doesn’t wear sneakers, she’s always offering her insight and I’ve been able to pick up some other sneakers I’ve always wanted. The Uptempos will always remain my favorite, the quality, the history behind them, and above all the person / reason I picked them up. I can’t thank her enough for being in my life and helping me get back to the person I was before all those events threw me off balance. I’d like to dedicate this to her , and I’d like to remind everyone to wear your kicks. #WYK #WYKW
