Once again its on. Welcome to Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 13.
Hope you guys are having a great week as I am. You should be, the weather’s great. Anyways though lets not even drift off into a tangent and lets get right into the sneakers.
Being this month of June is packed with release after release after release we expect to see a lot of kicks being showcased with #WYKW.
Last week as you can see from the #WYKW Recap (6/4/14) the people came with some new kicks that we didn’t necessarily see from prior weeks. Also we are starting to see more females partake too so thats a plus. If you guys missed the feature from last week as well from Relly (@HypebeastRelly) he shoved off his OG Air Jordan 4 ‘Breds’.
Now that we have you guys all caught up lets get into this weeks feature, well not a feature because I’ll be taking the wheel on this one. That’s right I’m back.
Today I will be sharing a story of two kicks. The Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cement’ and The Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite ‘Metallic Silver’.
Lets get into it…
I chose these two sneakers for one reason and that reason being they were the first pair and last pair of kicks I purchased using that good ol ‘ Foot Locker black card (discount).
The Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite ‘Metallic Silver’ was the first. I forget exact date when these dropped but thats irrelevant. I had the day off this day from Foot Locker and along with that day off it was also payday. Not only was it payday it was also the day I received my discount card and to make things even more better this was the day Foot Locker had their 50% off. Things couldn’t get any better than this, or could it.
I must admit I did get ahead of myself though. I wanted to be the man that day so I told my boys I would hook them up but not realizing that it would be ultimately impossible to hook everybody up with that discount being there is a limit and how the deducted amount gets subtracted off of the allowed discount. Not going to lie, this put me in a bad spot though because I promised something I couldn’t deliver on.
Anyway we started out in Foot Locker 34th and I saw absolutely nothing I wanted but Dame did and it was the Air Jordan 2 Retro ‘Candy’ but in red which were already on sale so he got them for the LOW using the 50% off as well. See that I didn’t mind because it didn’t really take much off my allowed discount. House of Hoops was next.
When we entered HoH (House Of Hoops), that’s when everybody found something and so did I. This was when things went bad because when an associate was helping us she started to explain how everybody wasn’t going to get on the discount due to the limit.
There was no way I wasn’t going to not get something plus the Nike Air Force 1 Foamposite ‘Metallic Silver” happened to be on the shelf (the last size 12) along with the Kobe joints in purple which my boy Ty ended up purchasing later on that day. Getting these as my first discount was a sigh of relief because I always wanted to work for Foot Locker so it seemed like a dream come true. LOL.
So after apologizing to my boys for not being able to hold them down with a purchase and I would get them sometime down the line everything was everything and that was that.
Now lets fast forward a couple months to Black Friday. I had just left Foot Locker to work at JP Morgan Chase but apparently my Black Card (Foot Locker) discount was still active. I had developed a real cool relationship with one of my managers, people in the store always confused us with one another so the employees started calling us brothers.
Anyway I had won a bet so I met up with this person to get the money for which was basically going to fund my Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Black Cements’, there was no question about that. After that I went to my friend crib to get a Thanksgiving plate and some drinks. Prior to that I hit up my manager to see about holding me down with my size and that he did.
So yeah after that I showed up to buy the kicks and to my surprise another manager told me that my discount was still active. So I got the discount for the “Black Cement” 3’s on top of not having to go through the Black Friday madness of getting them.
This was probably the last time I ever got a discount on kicks and I probably won’t ever again. Those days are over, now its impossible to find that type of love when copping kicks anymore.
