Hope you guys had a memorable, Memorial Day Weekend. With that being said, it’s time to get back to work. I know, I know it sucks. On the bright side we are 1 day closer to Friday and as that is exciting we have another day to be excited about, WEDNESDAY! We are here again for another installment, Kickin It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt. 11.
Real quick, we are working diligently to get to you guys the recap from last week, expect to see it Thursday. We apology to those who looked forward to seeing if their kicks made the cut.
Last week I shared with you guys probably one of the most eventful releases I had to endure which was for the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Concord”. If you guys missed it though as usual we have you covered. Check it out Kickin’ It With Def Pen: Wear Your Kicks Pt.10
Now lets get into this week.
So as you all know we have been stressing the fact that we want to get you guys involved and start sharing your own stories. I took to twitter to find the next feature as we already had three plus Dame which is four and now we have a fifth.
For the last few WYKW I have noticed this participant who has submitted some dope shots and if he isn’t a photographer, then he needs to be one. On top of the dope shots he has been a frequent supplier of showing some heat which resulted in his kicks being the featured image on a number of occasions.
I introduce to you guys Ricky, or aka as @LetMeGetA__ via twitter.
When I received his story its evident he is true to his DMV roots as this shoe selected is probably the most popular to those who live there, especially since we visited it when Quan did his feature. Unlike Quans story, I do own this shoe as well.
When I read this story I was able to relate to it because I have come across many situations where I had to make a crucial choice in which sneaker to pick when faced with options like that. At least Ricky didn’t make the mistake I did. For example where I chose to buy a pair of earrings over the metallic silver Foamposite Pro. I STILL regret it but anyway lets get into this story and also these great pictures of Ricky’s Nike Air Foamposite Pro “Electric Green” aka “Slimes” or “Slime Greens”.
Foamposites, what to say about Foamposites? Well Foams are by far my favorite shoe, a lot of people will talk about how ugly they are or how they’re too heavy but I love them. I grew up in the DMV area so I saw a lot of new balances, foams etc. before the hype for sneakers started to grow. I always wanted a pair of foams, especially the dirty coppers (which I finally got my hands on when I got to college) but the only problem was the price, I wasn’t old enough to get a job so I would just window shop. Go into stores pick
up shoes and say “one day…” we’ve all done that before.
The shoe I’m going to talk about and the shoe that probably has the most value to me personally, are my electric green foamposites. These were the first pair of shoes I bought after getting a job. One weekend in May I went to Potomac Mills and walked into Foot Locker and was just looking around I didn’t really intend on getting anything at first but it was my birthday so I decided to get myself something. I didn’t really see anything but just as I was leaving I saw the Electric Green foams just sitting on the wall right next to the Pearl Foamposites.
I literally sat there for about 20 minutes trying to figure out which one to pick, it felt like I was making a life changing decisions which shoe would I start my shoe collection with. Kind of like how we were young we would spend a long time making the executive decision about which Pokémon to start your journey with.
In the end I decided to go with the electric greens aka slime greens, I just loved that color green and at the time the off white/pearl color didn’t appeal as much. I think the electric greens may have started my addiction to bright colored shoes. That feeling you get when you buy your first pair of shoes is one that you’ll never forget if you love sneakers.
It’s crazy to think that now if those shoes dropped they would sell out, but these foams sat on the wall for a long time, some pairs even got put on clearance, now go on eBay and look at what they go for. Sometimes I feel like I should have picked the pearls cause now that time has passed they have actually ended up on my grail list but in the end I’m glad that I chose the electric greens. Since then I’ve had many pairs of foams but they either got traded away or were sold, the Electric Greens are one pair that won’t go anywhere, I’ll wear those until the soles come off.
