Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Devin Haney, Vasyl Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia and Shakur Stevenson have emerged as the biggest stars in the men’s lightweight division. Following behind them, a new generation of stars is emerging in the lightweight division. Leading the way, Keyshawn Davis and Frank Martin appear to have risen to the top. Recently, Davis told Boxing Scene that he is excited about a fight with Martin down the line.
“Frank Martin [and I] is gonna be a help [of a] fight. It’s [going to] be crazy,” he said.
Under the tutelage of Errol Spence Jr., Martin has amassed a record of 17-0 with 12 knockouts. He broke onto the national scene with a dominant win against previously unbeaten contender Michel Rivera.
“Honestly, he was doing a lot of the same sh*t that he was doing against a lot of the other opponents,” Davis told Boxing Scene about Martin’s most recent win.
“It was just working a lot on Rivera. He was capitalizing a lot on Rivera’s mistakes. He was controlling the fight. His style is still his style. The only thing I can really take from that fight is ok, you’re smarter than what I thought you were.”
Before Davis can set his sights on a fight with Martin, he must get by former champion Emmanuel Tagoe on April 8, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey. Televised on ESPN, the main card at Prudential Center will be headlined by Shakur Stevenson. The unbeaten lightweight contender is expected to fight Shuichiro Yoshino.
