The San Antonio Spurs and Kawhi Leonard have come to terms on a maximum contract extension that will ink Leonard for the next five years, from CBS Sports’ Ken Berger:
As expected, Kawhi Leonard and Spurs waste no time agreeing to five-year, $90 million max extension, league source confirms.

The framework of Leonard’s extension has been agreed upon, but not yet finalized. From Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski’s report:
“I have every intention of signing with the San Antonio Spurs,” Leonard said in a statement. “There are details in the contract which need to be worked out with the organization. I am confident that this will be accomplished.”
Spurs officials reached out to Leonard’s agents, Brian Elfus and Mitch Frankel of Impact Sports, shortly after midnight ET on Wednesday and the sides reached an agreement in principle on a contract that still has deal points to be worked out in the next several days, sources said.
Leonard is one of the few free agents who we know wasn’t even considering going anywhere. He has assumed the proverbial cornerstone role for the next era of Spurs basketball, and now it’s become finalized.
The next step is to try and supply Leonard with ample support, as the Spurs’ Hall of Fame Big 3 is on their final leg. Landing LaMarcus Aldridge, whom the Spurs have been said to be the frontrunner to sign, would be a huge step in that regard. For the next several years, the Spurs’ ongoing task will be to build around Kawhi Leonard.
