On Saturday, May 20, 2023, two undisputed champions defended their four belts. Out in Las Vegas, Devin Haney beat Vasyl Lomachenko to retain his four lightweight titles. Elsewhere, Katie Taylor moved up to super lightweight and challenge Chantelle Cameron for her four titles. To Taylor’s dismay, Cameron spoiled her homecoming bout and beat her by unanimous decision. While Taylor may have lost her perfect professional record, she has not lost her desire to take on the biggest challenges available to her. Immediately after the fight, she expressed her desire to enact her contract’s rematch clause and fight Cameron once more.
“Congratulations to Chantelle on a fantastic performance,” Taylor said during a post-fight interview.
“Thank you for the opportunity to fight for your belts. I look forward to the rematch.”
Taylor’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also provided a few more details regarding the rematch. At the moment, his goal is to bring the second fight back to Taylor’s home nation of Ireland in the fall.
“There is, of course, a rematch clause,” Hearn said.
“We’ll be doing the fight again here in Dublin. We’re going to speak to the team. [Saturday night] deserves and belongs to Chantelle Cameron. She takes her position in boxing royalty. We give her the respect.”
