It’s official! Days after it was first reported, Matchroom Boxing formally announced its latest boxing event in Detroit, Michigan. At The Masonic Temple Detroit, undisputed super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner will fight Christina Linardatou on July 15, 2023. Coming in with a record of 16-2, Linardatou will likely be a heavy underdog for the fight, but she does hold the distinction of being the only woman to beat Baumgardner as a pro.
“It’s going to be much better than the first one. She has shown signs of improvement, but I have a new purpose to fight for – my son,” Linardatou said.
“And as much as she improved with her skills, her ego and head has grown with it. She does a lot of things for social media and to get attention. I’m doing this for the legacy of my son. See you July 15, chump – I mean champ.”
Baumgardner’s homecoming bout will be supported by a pair of high-profile men’s bouts. Leading the way, Richardson Hitchins will put his undefeated record on the line against super lightweight contender Montana Love. In addition, Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz will make his pro debut against Juan Carlos Burgos.
“To say there is bad blood between us is an understatement. This is personal for me. I genuinely cannot stand the guy and come July 15; he’s going to feel all that anger come out. This is my time. This is going to be a showcase performance for me and put me in line for a World title,” Hitchinson said about his bout with Love.
“I’m gonna give you this ass whoopin’ you have been asking for. his is just the fight I need to get back into the mix, and when I deal with him, I’ll be back on track for World titles,” Love countered.
It will all go down on July 15, 2023 at The Masonic Temple Detroit on DAZN.
