The Auburn Tigers just landed a commitment from one of the best recruits available in four-star JT Thor. Prior to his commitment, the talented forward was one of just eight uncommitted top-100 players left in the 2020 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Thor was long considered a lock to follow top recruit Cade Cunningham to Oklahoma State, but Bruce Pearl was able to make a late push and secure a pledge from the talented forward after he added them to his list of four March.
Thor was once a top-15 recruit in the 2021 class but opted to reclassify into 2020 back in August of last year. While he is listed as a power forward by most services, he projects more as a wing at the NBA level as someone who can move on the perimeter and makes shots from downtown. In Pearl’s perimeter-oriented system, however, he will likely assume the role of a stretch four. While he may not assume a major role immediately, expect him to be able thrive off of active defense and efficient offense, much like Chuma Okeke and Isaac Okoro before him.

Thor’s commitment gives the Tigers the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country, jumping programs such as NC State and Gonzaga – and they may not be done yet. Auburn is also the favorite to land top-three recruit Jalen Green, who will make his decision on April 17th, and they are also still in the running for five-star big man Greg Brown III, who decides on the 25th. After a tumultuous finish to his tenure at Tennessee, Bruce Pearl has turned Auburn into a perennial contender in the SEC. With the addition of Thor, and perhaps others to follow suit, don’t expect that to change any time soon.
