Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has reportedly identified a location for the upcoming heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. Hearn hopes to have the two heavyweights face off at the 62,000-seat Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The fight is set to take place in September, but a specific date has yet to be revealed.
“This week that fight will be signed,” Hearn told DAZN.
“We’re looking at September in London. Just finalizing the details. It’s a great fight, a dangerous fight, it’s not the one we necessarily wanted or expected. But it’s a high-level heavyweight fight.”
Joshua last fought in June against Kubrat Pulev. The fight was originally scheduled to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but was moved to Wembley Stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Oleksandr Usyk is two fights into his move up to heavyweight. In October 2019, he managed to stop Chazz Witherspoon in the seventh round of his first heavyweight fight. One year later, he beat Derek Chisora by unanimous decision in London. Also, he won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 2012 Olympics.
