The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have fired Head Coach Josh Pastner after seven seasons with the basketball program. While the program did have some success under Pastner, it never quite found a consistent footing in the ACC, despite the league having some down years. It seems likely that Pastner will land somewhere else as a Head Coach somewhere down the road, but for now, he will be moving on from Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets will need to find a Head Coach that can recruit better in-state and compete with the other programs in the ACC.

In his seven years as the Head Coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Josh Pastner led the program to an overall record of 109-113 and an ACC record of 51-77. Despite the losing record, Pastner did lead the team to the 2021 ACC Tournament Championship and a Round of 64 exit in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The team also finished as the 2017 NIT runner-up in his first season with the program. Pastner was much more successful at his previous job with the Memphis Tigers.
Georgia Tech is positioned in a state with solid basketball recruits and a lackluster Georgia Bulldogs program as their main in-state competition for recruits. The right coach could come in and turn the program around. Josh Pastner could look to some mid-major programs either this offseason or in the future and decide that he fits in better at that level of basketball.
