The Georgetown Hoyas have fired former star player and current Head Coach Patrick Ewing after six seasons with the program. While the program did have some bright spots in his tenure, overall Ewing never quite figured things out as the Head Coach of the program. It will fall to someone else to bring the Hoyas back to Big East and National relevancy. This news comes after the team was eliminated from the 2023 Big East Tournament by the Villanova Wildcats. The same team that beat Ewing in his final college basketball game as a player.

In his six years as the Head Coach of the Georgetown Hoyas, Patrick Ewing led the team to an overall record of 75-109 and a Big East record of 28-81. The team had just one winning season where they were eliminated in the first round of the 2019 NIT. During the 2020-21 college basketball season, the team went 13-13 but went on a run to win the 2021 Big East Tournament. They were then eliminated in the round of 64 in the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The last two seasons have been rough with the team failing to reach ten wins in both seasons. They went 0-19 and 2-18 in the Big East in those two seasons.
The Hall of Fame basketball player did not have any coaching experience before being named the Head Coach at his alma mater. Patrick Ewing seemed to struggle as a recruiter later in his tenure and just never quite gained his footing while coaching on the court. Georgetown is a historically good program and the university will search hard for a coach that can return them to that status. While Ewing did not work out as a coach, they will always have memories of him as a player.
