The St. John’s Red Storm have fired Head Coach Mike Anderson after four seasons with the basketball program. It appears that Anderson can’t quite figure out how to build a winning program that is sustainable at this level of college basketball. He joined the Red Storm after being fired by the Arkansas Razorbacks and will now be moving on from yet another once-great basketball program. With the news that the program is moving on from Anderson, speculation has already begun about who will replace him in the college basketball offseason.

With the firing of Head Coach Mike Anderson, there has immediately been speculation that St. John’s is ready to make a big splash. The program is being linked with the current Iona Gaels Head Coach and one of college basketball’s most infamous coaches Rick Pitino. There is reportedly mutual interest between him and the Red Storm. With more rumors circulating about potential conference realignment, the program seems to be willing to spend the money for the Hall of Fame Head Coach.

In his four seasons as the Head Coach of the St. John’s Red Storm, Mike Anderson led the team to an overall record of 68-56 and a Big East record of 30-46. While the team did finish with a winning record in each of the four seasons, they did not qualify for a postseason tournament in those four seasons. There should still be some mid-major programs interested in Anderson as a Head Coach, but his days coaching bigger programs may be over now.
