
New England Patriots longtime safety Devin McCourty has announced he is retiring from the NFL after 13 seasons in the league. The star safety spent the entirety of his NFL career with New England after the team drafted him as the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent his college career with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights before joining the NFL. McCourty was a major starter for the Patriots in the back half of their dynasty run that dominated the NFL from the early 2000s to the late 2010s. Now he will move beyond his playing days.

In his 13 year career with the New England Patriots, Devin McCourty recoded 740 solo tackles, 971 combined tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, 110 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles, seven fumble recovered that he returned for 61 yards, and 35 interceptios that he returned for 581 yards and two touchdowns. McCourty was named to two Pro Bowls in his career and won three Super Bowls with the Patroits.

Devin McCourty retires as one of the best defensive players to ever suit up for the New England Patriots. With his retirement, the star players that won championships with Tom Brady dwindled even more. A new era in New England has truly begun and the team will look to the future.
